What about Being a Life Long Learning Family while working full time? Can it be done?
This is another question that I have received numerous request about, thus I am placing a page here to shed some light on this topic to help those parents out there who are working full time or have both parents working full time. I wish to thank the parent who was the most recent to email me and ask me this. Thank you dear friend, it is due to your question about this topic that was the inspiration for posting this page! Thank you for the light of who you are, and in bringing this forth so that others may come to learn from this.
First let me say that I can surely understand where you are having to work full time. First, I invite anyone who is considering homelearning through Life Long Learning or any other method they choose, to read the Life Long Learning Book, and in addition to reading this page on this site, I also invite you to read the pages on What About Curriculum?; on Being a Single Parent (there are links of articles and resources for single parents and working parents too on this page); Learning to Read with Life Long Learning; and On Seizing the Moment. I invite you to read these because whether they apply to your particular situation or are free from being so, these articles can provide some enlightened insights for you within others situations because the words of wisdom can be applied to all regardless of the particular situation. The wisdom within these articles is all inclusive in its approach.
Some may ask, how can we be a
Life Long Learning when I am, or my spouse and I are working full time at
professional jobs? I will tell you that my husband Aaron and I work full time
jobs as well both of us. It depends on what you consider a professional job I
suppose. Both my husband and I work and we are a Life Long Learning homelearning
family of three. My husband works in an office environment about 60 miles one
way away from where we live and myself I am a fulltime writer, lecturer on
homelearning and other topics, published author (my second book to be released
in the next few weeks), and the director of my own Spiritual Center which holds
weekly classes among other events. And I do all of this from home working
professionally fulltime from home while we are still a Life Long Learning
homelearning family. So you could say we have much success in homelearning our
three boys who are ages 15, 9 1/2, and 8 and both of us working fulltime.
Managing is rather easy actually as we are a pretty go with the flow type of
family. Learning with us occurs 24/7 really anytime and anywhere.
I truly invite you to read the Life Long Learning Book along with what is
available on this website. This book along with the articles and resources that
I have posted here, can assist you in getting started on homelearning and to see
just how easy it can be, even with working fulltime!:) If we can do it, I am
confident you can too!:) Take advantage of of any and all resource available to
you if you really desire to be a Life Long Learning homelearning family. This
can be anything from hiring a nanny if you can afford one, to asking relatives
to assist during the day, to co-op sharing with another homelearning family, to
bringing your child to work with you if your company allows it, to
telecommuting, to owning your own business where you can work from home ~ the
possibilities are infinite! It can work, it really is about just how much you
desire to provide a homelearning environment for your child(ren) and how
flexible you are willing to be to provide that. Remember, that with Life Long
Learning homelearning, learning is free from any "have to's" of being within
certain time frames and schedules during any given day. Learning can and does
occur 24/7 whenever and wherever we and our children choose it to!:)
